We Take Online Security Seriously
At Elgin State Bank, we don't think there's anything more important than your privacy and security while using our Website and Online Banking Services.
We're committed to taking every precaution to protect and safeguard your privacy, just as we do at each of our walk-in bank branches.
All Internet transactions, such as transfers of funds between Elgin State Bank accounts, and third-party bill payment, are conducted in a secure (encrypted) environment to protect your privacy.
If you have questions about the privacy or accuracy of your account information, please contact us immediately by calling 1-847-888-7950.
Online Security
For all online transactions, Elgin State Bank identifies you through the use of multi-factor authentication prior to allowing online access to any of our Online Banking and Bill-Pay services. Multi-factor authentication adds extra layers of online security to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts and reinforces that you are at our financial institution’s Internet Banking website.
Upon first login, you will be required to select a secret image, an image caption, and three to six challenge questions. Challenge questions and answers provide information known only to you and the financial institution. They help prevent unauthorized access to your account information. If someone else has access to your user ID and password, they will not know the answer to your challenge question and will not be able to get to your information.
Multi-layer security also exists that allows the system to authenticate your computer in order to ensure that your sign-on is not a fraudulent attempt to access account information. If the system does not recognize the computer, you will be asked your challenge questions. Your image and image caption is only shown to you if you login to a computer that has been registered or if you have successfully responded to the challenge questions. It is not possible for an unauthorized person to get access to your image, and repeated failed attempts to gain access to information will result in an automatic timeout. Some reasons you might be challenged are:
- You are logging in from a different computer
- You are logging in from a different browser
- Your token is missing from your computer because you cleared all the cookies on your computer or your cookie/token disappeared
- You incorrectly entered your User Id on the first attempt
When you apply for Online Banking, a Customer ID is generated for you by Elgin State Bank to identify who you are, while also allowing us to consolidate multiple account relationships that you may have into one number. The bank will also issue you a temporary Personal Identification Number (or PIN) to help verify your identity and authenticate that it is actually "you" who is calling the bank.
Your PIN must be a minimum of seven (7) characters in length. We suggest that you select a PIN that is easy for you to remember, but hard for anyone else (even people who know you) to guess. We do not recommend you use a significant date (an anniversary, a birthday), your phone number or extensions, or even your street address as your PIN. Your PIN is not restricted to numeric characters, but we do not recommend you choose the name of your spouse, or children, local sports teams, or other such easily guessed items. Make your PIN more difficult to determine by selecting one that is a combination of alpha and numeric characters.
If you forget your PIN (or believe your PIN has been compromised), please call our Customer Care Center at 1-847-760-3380.
Security Tips for Your Protection:
- Never share your Access Codes (Customer ID and PIN) with anyone.
- Select a PIN that is hard for others to guess, but easy for you to remember.
- Don't leave your computer unattended in the middle of an online banking or Bill-Pay session.
